As Spring 2010 approaches, Relic Entertainment and THQ are releasing more info about the upcoming Warhammer 40,000 Dawn of War II: Chaos Rising videogame, set to be released in Spring 2010. This Warhammer 40k-based game will be the latest installment in the Dawn of War franchise.

From the trailers and from different confirmations from THQ and/or Relic Games we can glimpse some details about the upcoming games:

The game will be released in the U.S. on March 11, 2010, and in Europe on March 12, 2010.

A new race, the Chaos Space Marines, will be introduced in this game, along with those from the previous game (Warhammer 40,000 Dawn of War II) : Space Marines, Eldar, Orks and Tyranids. All these will receive further new units.

The new, confirmed units are (apart from the old ones):

  • Chaos Space Marines
  • Dreadnought
  • Bloodletter Daemons
  • Bloodletters on Juggernaut Daemons

The game is set on environments present in its predecessor, as well as 2 novel environments:

• The ice planet Aurelia
• An abandoned Space Hulk which has just come outof the Warp along with the planet Aurelia.

The events in the game take place on year after the events in Warhammer 40,000 Dawn of War II. The game’s story builds on the events in Dawn of War 2.

One interesting new feature in the game is the Corruption system. In each mission there will be several objectives which will allow the player to complete that mission. Depending on the  objective you choose to complete, you will become more corrupted or less so. The level of corruption will indicate how close the player’s Space Marines are to being corrupted by Chaos, and affects what missions and endings become available to the player. This means repeated playability. This, I think, is quite an interesting way to add replayability in the game, rather than the usual “race campaign” thing.
